Friends Who Feng Shui
I love working with friends and getting to know them in a new way when I feng shui their home.

Who knew?! Feng shui has so much more to do with MY WHOLE BEING than it has to do with where I put my couch. Let me say that my husband Chris and I have known Helen for a very long time. She has basically watched us become the dead-inside adults we are now. That's going a little far, but perhaps our consultation with Helen came at just the right time to reignite our passion for our home, our hobbies, and enliven our family time.
We've lived here about 5 years, and love our enormous full wall windows, the mid-century modern architecture and the forest preserve we back up to. But like a lot of people, we came out of the pandemic with two teenagers, two busy careers, and a handful of new hobbies. So we were simultaneously stuck in a rut and too busy to spend time figuring our way out. And, it seemed that over 19 years of marriage, our style had diverged and we couldn't agree on anything decor-related.
Helen had us describe what we wanted out of our home. She had us make wishes for our future. We talked. Our kids participated. That exercise alone was illuminating and bonding.
Next, we had a consultation with Helen in which she laid out the principles of feng shui and applied them to our home and our lives. It was nothing like I thought it would be! Yes, it matters where you put your couch for energy flow, but feng shui it turns out is more about setting intentions for your life. Once we started practicing what Helen had taught us, we were making decisions, we were hanging pictures that had sat on the floor for 5 years, we were putting ourselves first and actually practicing self care.
I would say this experience was therapeutic, too. We uncovered reasons why we had been so indecisive--not just in our homes, but in our personal and professional lives. Living daily with intention has made an enormous difference in our lives--whether it's in meeting deadlines, spending quality time with our kids, or playing piano (new hobby) in a designated, feng shui-styled room.
